Our story

Basuula Matama & Co. Associates started from a shared observation: African businesses and NGOs often have real potential, but not the financial systems and reporting that funding requires.

We bring together two distinct but complementary worlds. With over 25 years in high-stakes public sector audits and corporate financial control, Sam Basuula understands the rigorous accountability that regulators and large institutions demand. Matama Mary Milly brings 15+ years of agile financial structuring across banking, oil & gas, and the development sector, and has managed credit facilities and grants exceeding USD 150 million.

Together, our backgrounds bridge the gap between compliance and growth. We help businesses and social enterprises build trust, the kind that secures investment, satisfies international donors, and supports long-term growth across Africa.

A finance and audit professional with over 25 years of experience in public sector audit, internal audit, and financial control, spanning 13 years as an Examiner of Accounts with the Office of the Auditor General of Uganda, auditing institutions including Makerere University, Mulago Hospital, and Uganda's Electoral Commission, before heading Internal Audit at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, serving as Principal Partner at GOSAM and Associates, and now serving as Financial Controller for Donco Group PLC (USA) and Holychildhood Schools.

A finance professional with over 15 years of experience across banking, oil and gas, non profit, medical and creative sectors, spanning treasury, credit management, financial management, and consulting; she has managed multi-bank credit facilities and grants worth over USD 150 million, built financial systems for MSMEs, and overseen project reporting for partners such as UNFPA, USAID, NSSF and Mastercard Foundation. She sits on the boards of Maendeleo Foundation and Jesuit Refugee Services.
